Don’t Get Scammed on Your Next Move

Choosing a moving company can seem daunting – it’s a big decision and choosing the wrong one can make moving even more stressful. Our team at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® San Diego is here to make that process as simple as possible. The most important part in choosing a moving company is making sure that you trust the company. Follow these tips to make sure you choose the best company:

  • Check the Better Business Bureau’s website to make sure the company is accredited
  • Check the California Public Utilities Commission’s (CPUC) or the U.S. Department of Transportation’s website to make sure the company is licensed
  • Ask for a certificate of insurance to ensure the movers coming to your home or business are covered on the company’s Workers’ Compensation policy in case of an injury—otherwise, you could be held liable
  • Research the company on popular review sites like Yelp, Google, or Angie’s List, but be aware that it is very easy to manipulate these ratings
    • While you should read reviews, it is important to not solely rely on opinion sites when making this decision
  • Call the companies you are considering, request a quote, and take note of what in included in the rate; Be aware of any hidden charges
    • Some companies may include padding, stretch wrap, floor protection, door jamb protectors, etc. in the rate, but other companies may charge you for any extras
  • Make sure the company has a method of protecting your items against damages or losses through valuation or insurance
  • Make sure the company offers a reasonable cancellation policy; Move dates often have to be shifted, so make sure the company will allow you to change your move date with a few days’ notice
  • Verify that the movers are fully trained by the company
    • Nothing is more stressful than having a moving crew who has never been taught to move those heavy items properly, as it will increase the likelihood of damage to your belongings

As with any major purchase, time and consideration should be put into selecting a moving company. If you want the best quality of service, do not just choose the company with the lowest rates. If a rate seems too good to be true, it probably is. Thoroughly research all available options, and make sure you are choosing a licensed, reputable company and you will not be disappointed. Keep in mind—you are the one in charge. You decide who will move you, so choose a company that you trust.
